"Moonie is one of the best rats I have owned. And there have been many over the years. He is gentle, sweet an attentive to both myself and his cage mate. His color just stuns me! I have always wanted a roan. And to find one with such a wonderful personality is just amazing."

_"I had always wanted a black eyed white ratty.. The second I saw Snow on STWR's website I knew I had to have him, I fell in love right away! Ashten was very nice throughout the entire adoption. Bringing Snow home took almost a 5 hr round trip, but it was completely worth it! He is a total lazy love bug (huge too!) and is very spoiled. He was a sweetheart from the second I picked him up. Everyone who meets him falls in love instantly because he looks like a tiny polar bear! Snow is very healthy and has a wonderful temperament. I'm constantly getting compliments about him and what a handsome/sweet guy he is... I was even able to convince a non-ratty lover to give them a chance all because of him! Thanks for everything Ashten, will be adopting from you again in the future."

_"I adopted a black eyed white dumbo male from her on May 24, 2013. He was about 4 months old at the time (I believe he was one she thought she might keep but decided to adopt out). My meeting with her was very brief since my fiance and I had driven to Ohio the day before and decided to stop by her rattery in Pennsylvania on our way back to Virginia. It was a long drive so I just wanted to pick up the rat and start making our way back home. Sweet Whispers Rattery was super sweet and understanding about the whole thing! Her adoption process was very lengthy and required her to make a copy of my identification. However, I understand why her adoption policies are stricter than most and I think it's worth it to go through such a process if the rats are coming from a good breeder! Unfortunately in the pet world, adopters can lie about their intentions and take pet-only animals and use them for backyard breeding operations. Some breeders take extreme measures to keep their well bred lines AWAY from these kinds of breeders, so I didn't mind going through Sweet Whispers Rattery's adoption process. That just shows she is extremely dedicated to finding her rats excellent homes! The male I adopted from her was very healthy. Black eyed white rats are more prone to Megacolon, but this black eyed white rat appears to be as healthy as can be! He was a little shy at first and wasn't comfortable with me grabbing him, but now that he has settled down in his new home, he runs up to me whenever I open the door to the cage! He has become a sweet, curious little rat! I would recommend Sweet Whispers Rattery to anyone in the PA area! I'm glad we were able to make it to her rattery on our way back from Ohio, or we would have missed out on such a nice little rat!"

_"We were looking for a companion rat for our recently acquired young female lab rat, but knew we did not want a pet store rat (yikes!). After some internet searching, we found Sweet Whispers. All our questions were answered very quickly, and Ashten paired us up with a baby rat. We had a to wait a bit for her to be ready to go home, but it was so worth it! She was friendly and healthy and the sweetest little thing. Our two ratties are best buds now and we are so happy with Rosemary! We would be sure to return to Sweet Whispers if we ever were to get another rat!!"

__"Kylee continues to play with them every day in her "rat room". The room is rat-proofed and she has set up tunnels and tubes and ladders for them to play on. She will take them from their cage and play with them for hours some days. They jump up to the chairs and play in the blankets. She cracks up watching them run, chase and wrestle each other all over the room. They get tired and curl up with her to clean themselves and rest. Thanks for providing us with some great, lovable, cuddly rats."

_"We have been lucky enough to have rats in our lives for about 7 months now. We got our first two girls from a pet store at an unknown, but young, age. After realizing our great love for rats, we were eager to add a third to our mix when we found Sweet Whispers Rattery (STWR).
Ashten was flexible with us only wanting one more girl to join our family. We imagine it is extremely difficult to bring animals into this world with the responsibility of finding the right home for them, but Ashten runs her rattery with the perfect balance of accountability and compassion. We never could have dreamed that adding a third little girl to our family would work out so perfectly. We are lucky to have adopted Jubileena Bing Bing from the Pear and Orwen litter, we decided to call her Mozie. From the moment we met Mo about a month ago, we were in love. She, so small and young, came out with kisses and curiosity. (This being the opposite of our experience bringing home our other two girls.) Upon meeting her sisters she has only become more playful, constantly grooming and snuggling with Beatrix and Juniper. We were amazed at how friendly, brave and affectionate Mozie has been since the moment we met her.
Through adopting Mozie from STWR we have discovered that adopting from Ashten insures you are a well-informed rat mom or dad, you will have healthy, happy pups and you have a new human friend for life. For these and many other reasons we will forever pursue adoptions with Sweet Whispers Rattery."

_"When my mom told me that I needed to find a rat breeder if I ever wanted to have one, I honestly had no idea what I would find. After searching the internet for half an hour I came across the website for Sweet Whispers Rattery. Instantly, I knew that I would look into getting a rat from you. Not only was the information on the site beyond helpful but I discovered my two adorable ratties.
Calliope and Kanaya came home with me on May 11th, 2013, and they have been such a joy. Every hour of driving to get them has been worth it. The great thing about them is that they're complete opposites. Calliope is very protective of her sister and is always looking for an adventure. She is energetic and fiercely intelligent. Kanaya, on the other hand, is very cautious and takes a very watchful approach. Both of them have adjusted beautifully to their new environment, and even my mom (the woman who said she could never fall in love with a rat) is head over heels.
Thank you for these delightful angels."

_"My son has been asking for a pet that he could take care of and cuddle. I researched the usual small animals, hamster, gerbil, guinea pigs.. and found that a rat would be the best for us. I was not wrong. We adopted two boys from Ashten a little over three months ago, and my boys and I love them. The are very social and love to come out and play. They love to cuddle in their bed, but always come over to see us when we come to the cage. They love to get their treat (veggies) from my kids too.
When I tell others about the rats, I get the usual response of "gross" from people that have never owned them. On the other hand, people that have owned rats always say how great they are as pets and how much they loved having them.
If you are looking for a small animal that actually enjoys your company and wants to interact with you, then a pair of rats is your best choice."

_"I was browsing the web looking for a new pet when I stumbled across the fancy rat. At first I thought yuck, but then I read up more on them and fell in love with the idea of them as pets. Though it took convincing to get my dad to even consider a rat as a pet, I did it! He did some research of his own into fancy rats and decided it too was a good idea. (Much better than getting another dog!) We went to our local pet store and looked at their small selection of rats; they were already full grown and looked unhealthy, so we started looking for breeders. I scoured the internet looking for rat breeders in PA close to us. There weren't many of them that impressed me; a lot of the ratteries websites weren't current, closed down, or not well presented. Then in a stroke of luck, I found Sweet Whispers! I was so impressed with the format and the easy navigation that I sent in the adoption application right away! I got a response the next day! We continued emailing back and forth and she always responded that day or the next day to any of my questions. I had so many questions for her regarding rat care that we had exchanged over 100 emails by the time it was pick-up day! She had so much patience with me! On pick-up day me and my dad left our house at 6:00 AM and took a 4 1/2 hour drive to the pick-up location. It was worth every minute of it! I have two amazing girl rats Smudge and Remi! I have been able to handle them from day one. I have only had them for a little over a week now and they already come to the front of their cage to see me and want to come out and play with me. They are so perfect! Thanks to Sweet Whispers Rattery for bringing me and my two rats together!"

_"I adopted two baby girls from Sweet Whispers over a month ago. I have to say that before contacting Ashten I was trying to reach two closer located breeders for over a month, with no success. When I wrote to Ashten I was so desperate to get rats because my son's birthday was coming and he wanted to get two girls for his birthday. I got so lucky! Ashten responded right away and gave me hope. Soon enough I was driving two hours one way to Sweet Whispers to get our babies. Both girls were so beautiful and lively! Right away I noticed how curious and intelligent they were! They also were very happy and healthy. We named them Maca and Ficka. This is our first rat adoption and I am so in love with both of them. My son lets them run free around the bedroom and always does his homework with both of them sitting in his sleeves! They are so friendly and make me laugh when they run and jump around me.
I would recommend Ashten's Rattery to anybody who is interested in rat adoption. She is professional, reliable and takes a good care of her small friends."

_"We were in the market to add 2 rats to our family after losing our last one a year prior. We had previously had a rescue rat that had several health problems and never got over her fear biting. We really wanted girls that would seek out our attention and that is exactly what we got from Sweet Whispers. She was pleasant and knowledgeable, very thorough in the application process (I judge a good breeder by the amount of concern they have about their adopters ability to properly care for their pets). We have had our 2 beautiful little girls Cinnamon and Sugar for one week and it feels like they have always been here. Their temperaments are so sweet and affectionate! They love to be with us, either on our shoulders or in any pocket, hood or sleeve they can squeeze into. They have even made friends with the cat. We couldn't be happier with our new additions and would highly recommend Sweet Whispers Rattery. Thanks again!"

_"I recently adopted two boys from Ashten and I am absolutely in love with them. My roommate and I had wanted to get two older adult males and she was so helpful and gave us a list of retired breeders. I drove 2 and 1/2 hours from Baltimore to pick the rats up and it was definitely worth it. One of the males we initially adopted ended up not being the best fit for us and she was extremely understanding and helpful and found us another male who ended up being a much better fit. Koda and Shiloh are cuddly, sweet, licky, fun boys and everyday they make me laugh with the curious antics and affectionate nature. Koda, the mink dumbo, is such a squishy lover who just melts when you pet him and just wants to sit on your shoulder all day. Shiloh is a licky sweetheart who is noisy and curious and loves to explore, but still enjoys cuddle sessions.
All in all, Ashten has been so wonderful and I would recommend her to anyone. She cares about her rats and their well being and isn't just breeding rats to make some money. I'm so happy to have these boys in my life and plan to spoil rotten!"

_"I had originally contacted Ashten to ask if she knew of a breeder in my area, because I was looking for two girls. However; once we started communicating and I realized how knowledgeable and responsive she was, I decided to just take the two hour road trip and adopt from her. I wound up getting three baby girls from her Bane/Bling litter, and naming them Dolly, Patsy, and Loretta. They are healthy, friendly, and highly entertaining! Not to mention spoiled rotten. Since joining our family, they have helped to convince quite a few people how great rats are as pets who weren't completely sold yet. It's really amazing the amount of personality and affection rats display, and our girls have an abundance of both! I have contacted Ashten with questions after the adoption, to which she responded as promptly as ever. I have already decided that any future rat adoptions will be with Sweet Whispers Rattery so that I can be assured that I will be getting healthy, well-socialized rats."

"I brought Ninja and Bella home for my children for Christmas, but I have become so attached to them myself!! They are so lovable and social it is unbelievable. They love to be out exploring but never wander too far from us. In the cage, they mostly hang in their hammock snuggling with each other - it is soooo cute when they peek their little noses out!
Ninja is white, and so named because she started climbing all over the cage and jumping around right away. She is very curious, very courageous and so entertaining. Bella is more reserved and not such a dare devil, but she is super sweet, loves interaction and is so pretty.
I can't thank Ashten enough for answering all my emails and working with me on getting these girls home in time for Christmas. She is so helpful and really cares about her rats and her clients. Very professional! I would recommend her to anyone who is considering adopting these wonderful pets!"

_"As my two boys Norbert and Daggett have reached their 6-month birthdays, I have gotten to see them grow into their personalities and love them more than words can describe. These rats are extremely wonderful pets, very sociable and happy, smart and lovable. I've even gotten people who were grossed out at first to hold and cuddle them! They're so amazing.
Ashten is definitely well-practiced in her trade, and she obviously cares about her rats very much. She delivered what she said she would: healthy, well-tempered rats, and perfect little companions to boot. It was worth the two-hour drive (both ways!) to get these little guys, even if everyone I talk to thinks I'm nuts. They are the lights of my life and I'd pick them all over again if I had the chance. Thanks to Sweet Whispers, I have come to love having rats around, and I know I'll have great pets for the rest of my life."

_"I've had my three babies from Sweet Whispers for almost a year. I live 150 miles from STWR. The trip was definitely worthwhile to get pets from someone who is dedicated to quality and knowledgeable about rat genetics. She guided me into selecting three rats who had already lived together, so they settled into their new home very quickly. When I got there, she had all of them ready to go and they were just like in the pictures. They were all healthy, active, friendly, and well socialized. They love exploring, climbing everywhere, getting into everything they can get their little paws on.
Pretty In Pink (the dark one in the pictures) is from a different litter than the other two and she's older than the others. She is very agile and very strong. If there is anything new to climb in my room, I can count on her to be the first up. She can fling herself at my leg and scramble up my body to my shoulder, where she tickles my face and begs for treats (all three of them LOVE sunflower seeds and soy nuts).
Naira (the lightest coat, trying to decide if the plastic Christmas berry is food) is very cuddly. She will actually sit still for short periods and let me rub her. I also taught her to lie on her back in my hand for treats and to get her tummy tickled.
Awinita is stand-offish. She allows herself to be picked up, like she was taught as a pup at STWR, but she never volunteers to be held or petted, like the others. I love her anyway, because she's very cute and she's sweet to her cage-mates. She's also smart and has learned several tricks for me, including pulling yarn into the cage hand over hand for bedding.
I've owned rats before, but I don't know a whole lot about them. I'm really glad that I have someone I can email with questions. Her willingness to be involved definitely doesn't end after the money changes hands, like with many pet suppliers. I would unhesitatingly recommend that anyone get their rats from SW."

_"I got my first three rats from Sweet Whispers Rattery a few weeks ago. I am a new rat owner, and I absolutely love these ratties! They constantly want to chill with me, eat with me, and they love to play! In the first picture, Alister is just sitting in my hand. I am not holding him there, but he was just content to sit and chill with me. They are always eager to come out of the cage and go for a romp around the room! Each and every day they are getting more comfortable with me and are willing to explore more of the apartment. I was looking for social rats, and clearly, these guys are exactly what I wanted! Thank you Ashten and Sweet Whispers Rattery!"

_"Just wanted to follow up with you after having picked up the girls from your rattery earlier this week. We have decided to name the Velveteen Bareback, Annie, and the Siamese, Molly. They're such sweet girls, we couldn't be happier to have them! So far everything has been going great with them. They appear to be adjusting well to their new home and have been eating and sleeping well. In another few weeks, we hope to introduce them both to their big sister, Freya, who will be so happy to have some new playmates. Thank you again for these wonderful little darlings! They're everything we could have hoped for and more."

"We decided to go with a breeder after our experience with a set of pet store rats. Not to say that pet store rats can't be great pets, but the ones we had were very skittish and tended to bite when they were scared. When the last one passed away, we decided we needed to fill the void, but we wanted to fill it with rats that were used to being around people. Ashten didn't have any new litters at the time and our desire for rats was great enough that we went for some slightly older ones. We started with two Himalayan, Selene (STWR Into the Fire) and Artemis (STWR Bring on the Wonder). Then we decided we wanted a third, Sugar (STWR Sugar Cookie) and then somehow we ended up with a fourth, Mara (STWR Marakesh).
I would definitely recommend Ashten to anyone who is looking for healthy, well-cared for and CUTE rat buddies to join their family. Even though she was 2 hours away from us, it was well worth the drive to get our new family members."

"Hello! I have owned rats for over 8 years, adding to my colony from run down pet shops, high scale pet shops and feeder tanks. I became best friends with the exotic vet, too! I knew there had to be a better way to have these gentle, loving creatures live a better, longer, happier life. I recently adopted two rats from Ashten in May, an outgoing girl named Ruby and a shy girl named Satin. Ashten keeps her rats in her home (not a barn, shed, or basement). They're healthy, alert, well taken care of and very social. They have true pedigrees that don't link to "unknowns" or "pet store rats." Did I mention: They're HEALTHY!
Ashten is also helpful and friendly so if you're not too sure about rat care she'll help you. I had an old timer rat boy (neutered) and she helped me to get the three rats living together happily. She answered my text messages and emails quickly, and she explained the behaviors I was observing as the rats settled in together. There's no denying it..hands down or four paws down... Sweet Whispers Rattery is the BEST!"

"My first order of business when I moved out was getting the pet rats I've always wanted but couldn't have. I contacted a couple of breeders, but Ashten was the only one that got back to me. As a first time rat mom, I had a lot of questions (A LOT). Ashten answered every single one and more. She really wants her rats to go to good homes and she makes sure of that by answering every single question. Ashten stayed in contact with me even after I picked up Sheldon (STWR Dream Catcher) and Leonard (STWR Jamaican Bay).
Sheldon and Leonard were nervous at first, but they have settled in quite nicely. I was surprised at how fast they learned to use their litter box! Sheldon grooms my neck and likes to cuddle more than his brother. Leonard likes to nibble on my fingernails and tries to nest in my hair! He is the more dominant of the two. Both are growing so fast and have healthy appetites.
Sheldon and Leonard like to torment my Jack Russell Terrier, Miley. They try to grab her nose through the cage bars and nibble on her ears every time she sticks her head in the cage. These little guys are so much fun and make an awesome addition to my little animal family.
If I ever decide to get more rats in the future I will definitely be contacting Ashten. She takes wonderful care of her rats and is so helpful. I can't thank her enough!"

"In mid May of this year (2012), my very much loved rat, River, passed away of old age. Though my time with him was not too long, it was great! He was awesome!! And I do really miss him.
I couldn't help but go back to Ashten to fill the gap! And before I knew it, she hooked me up with two spunky babies! Hakuna and Matata! Their names not only are a direct reference from a favorite movie (The Lion King) but also a tribute to River. River reminded me so much of Pumba, the always hungry, yet lazy, warthog! River was very laid back, so in the hopes that my new buddies would be like him I named them Hakuna and Matata!
Hakuna is a great, yet little reserved, little friend. He is not the dominant rat in the house, because his big brother, Matata, pushes him around. But I see more play than anything. Just like River, Hakuna and Matata wait for treats at their cage door and really can't wait to be fed at night! They have huge appetites as they have really grown into big boys. If guess that Matata is over a pound now.
I really do hope my new buddies really let me become a close friend over the next couple months. Come fall I'll start shoulder training them and playing with them a little more. They are very curious about me, they allow me to pet them very easily and they don't mind being held or carried at all, soon they will jump from their cage to my hand! Rats really should be renamed as mans' best friend!
I highly recommend Ashten at Sweet Whispers to anyone interested in a little friend, or two, or three!"

"I absolutely love animals, so I always wanted to have pets, but sadly the last time my family had "real" pets was when I was pre-school age. We had two guinea pigs, Flower and Booboo, but they were both gone by the time I was in kindergarten, so I was really too young to fully appreciate them... Ever since they passed, all my brother and I have had were frogs, sea-monkeys, triops, hermit crabs, and most recently, crayfish.
This past summer, my dad and I started volunteering at the animal shelter to help fill the gap in my heart that could only be filled with the love of an animal. I got attached to a few very special animals, particularly a stranger-aggressive dog that soon loved and trusted me, but my parents had various reasons for not wanting to get a dog or a cat...
So, realizing I was stuck with a "cage critter," I started researching various pets. Different animals were crossed off the list one-by-one, and eventually I ended up with - you guessed it - rat.
I started doing more rat-specific research and eventually found Ashten's rattery as a reputable source of ratties. I have to admit, I was originally going to adopt from a pet store, but I am SO glad I chose Sweet Whispers Rattery instead!
Ashten was everything I expected in a reputable rat breeder - and then some. There's no doubt she cares about all of her little critters. She made sure I had all of the information I needed and there were times where I know she was questioning me as an adopter. Although I was pretty sure I'd make a good rat "mommy", she wanted to make sure the babies were going to a great home. Also, even though I feel I did a pretty significant amount of research, I still had a lot of questions, and Ashten answered each and every one in detail and was always patient. She definitely knows what she's doing.
The rats themselves also show how caring Ashten was to them to ensure they would be friendly in their new homes. My girls, Sunny and Bonsai, were a little shy when I first brought them home, but that was to be expected. Within a few days I had them eating out of my hand and greeting me as I entered my room. Within in a little over a week they've both rode my shoulders around the house and use me as a jungle-gym during playtime. It's a great feeling, and you can really tell that they were raised and handled in a very loving environment.
Finally, if you are questioning rats as pets or simply don't know what pet to get, rats make wonderful companions. I've only had my girls for almost three weeks and it's already clear how amazing these animals really are. You can ignore most, if not all, of the stereotypes involving rats... They are smart, friendly, affectionate, inquisitive, playful, clean... the list goes on. There have been many times where my girls' silly antics made me laugh out loud, and when my special crayfish died a week after getting them, they really helped me feel better. They might be small, but they have very big personalities. If you're looking to add furry friends into your life, you should not only definitely get rats, but make sure you adopt them from Sweet Whispers Rattery. You will not regret it!"

"After searching for a high quality rat breeder in my area, I came across Sweet Whispers Rattery. I found a couple other rat breeders in my area and I looked at Pet Stores. The website of Sweet Whispers Rattery won me over. All of the rats on the site were beautiful rats with amazing colors. The whole transaction of buying my rats from Sweet Whispers Rattery was very easy and I was scheduled to pick my rats up at my convenience. In the past, I have owned Pet Store rats and what I found was that my Pet Store rats had rougher fur and were less social for a longer period of time. The rats I brought home from the Sweet Whispers Rattery had the softest fur I had ever felt on a rat and they all were very curious and social. All of them loved to be pet and to just relax with you. I would definitely go back to Sweet Whispers Rattery when I buy my next rat."

"I've wanted ratties of my own for years and in searching for a rattery, I came across outdated sites, unresponsive breeders, and began to feel very discouraged. After months and months of searching near my home in North Jersey, I decided to try PA and I came across this website and was surprised at how informative and current it was, not to mention how cute all the ratties looked! I sent an e-mail to Ashten thinking I wouldn't see a response for months or never for that matter and she replied right back to me! I was so happy that finally somebody had the decent courtesy to run their business as they claim to on their website! Within days, she answered all of my (annoying) questions, gave me many options, and we worked out plans for me to pick-up my babies.
I drove almost 3 hours to pick up my 3 girls who were a part of Rebel X Karamas litter (STWR Daydreamer [Mileena], STWR Someone Like You [Kitana], & STWR Don't You Remember [Jade]) and though it was a long ride, it was so worth it! I knew I could trust Ashten before even meeting her!
As a cat lover and owner, I was afraid that the ratties were never going to get used to the scent of predators in the house. At first, they were nervous, timid, and hiding which was expected but after just 2 weeks, the girls were fighting to be the first out of the cage every time I walked past. They now enjoy riding around on my shoulders even when they are within feet of the cats. It's simply amazing how different their personalities differ from one another and to see how they interact during play time.
My nieces and little cousins who frequently visit absolutely love them and always beg me to take them out and play whenever they are over. The ratties are so sweet and love the attention. A lot of my friends who were grossed out by the idea of rats have now learned to love them and ask to carry them all the time. It feels good to change people's uneducated negative opinions to positive!
If I decide to adopt more ratties (which I get the urge to do every time I see new available babies), I would rather drive the 3 hours there & the 3 hours back to NJ other than pulling teeth to get an answer from somebody closer because I know I can depend on Sweet Whispers to get the job done right!! Thank you so much!"

"We want to thank Ashten for all the care she took raising my 2 baby girls back in February for their first 6 weeks, they had a tough start but are as strong as any other now. I have had pet store rats in the past and they were cute of course, but the girls I adopted from Sweet Whispers Rattery are the most fun and social rats I have ever been around. They have two very different personalities and love to be out of their house and play with us on the couches. My boyfriend said that having rats is so much more fun then he thought it would be and we take plenty of pictures of the little ladies being silly. They love to sleep curled up in their hammock together. I would recommend Sweet Whispers to anyone looking to share their home with some of these cute critters. Ashten was a huge help with any questions and truly cares about all her animals and their well being after the adoption process. Thanks Sweet Whispers!"

"As a college student who loves animals, I decided to adopt a pair of rats for my apartment. I knew I wanted to adopt from a breeder and applied to both Blue Skies and Sweet Whispers Rattery. Blue Skies Rattery was closer to my area, but they were no longer breeding, so I went on to adopt from Sweet Whispers, and I'm so glad I did. I loved the website and knew right away that the rats I would be adopting would be healthy and friendly. All throughout the adoption process Ashten was there for any questions I had, and always responded back quickly. On the day that I adopted my two girls, I was so excited and couldn't wait to take them home.
My girls, Annie and BoBo, are absolutely beautiful and I fell in love with them from day one. Ashten's been there whenever I had questions, and she's given me a lot of advice and information to ease my mind of any worries. Both girls are doing so well and growing more and more each day. I LOVE my girls. Every night after I let them run around (they're FULL of energy!) they crawl up on me and I snuggle and pet them until they fall asleep. They are just adorable, I couldn't be happier with them! My friends and family love them as well, and I've converted them into rat people :) I'm so glad I adopted from Ashten, and if I chose to adopt rats in the future I know I'll get them from her. As for now I'm looking forward to enjoying these next few years with my girls!"

"My boyfriend and I didn't start out looking to adopt from Sweet Whispers Rattery. At first we were trying to adopt from another local breeder and it just seemed like everything they said wasn't adding up, excuses being made, and in the end letting us down by not staying organized and not realizing which of their rats were already promised. We got to the point where we almost decided to give up, but then I decided to contact another rattery, that sent the message on to STWR, and nearly immediately I received an email back from Ashten.
She always worked with us, giving us the best answers to our questions, and helping us as new rat owners. She was flexible and responsive, even when things in her own life were overwhelming. She was helpful, considerate, and eventually helped us find our two boys (now named Riley and Ramza).
I honestly don't think I'll get my ratties from anywhere else besides Sweet Whispers. I've never seen rats so sweet, and outgoing! Not to mention curious and intelligent! They were healthy, and well maintained while in her care, and she helped us to know how to continue that care when we took them home. I'm so grateful that she trusted us with adopting two of her boys, and look forward to the future when we have the space and time to adopt some more! If you want a place where you know you can trust the quality of care as a breeder, Sweet Whispers is where you should go."

"I am so grateful to Ashten for all her advice and expertise. She helped me after the loss of one of my rats with patience and insight. When I was ready to adopt two more ratties, she guiding me through my options, adoption, and introductions to my older rat. The two little little girls I adopted are fuzzy angels! Their friendliness and sweet dispositions are a testament to the quality care they received from the start. Sweet Whispers is a responsible and quality rattery, that I would recommend without any reservations."

"Sweet Whispers Rattery is the best rattery in the area! It was important to me to deal with a knowledgeable breeder that ethically and humanely does business. Ashten came recommended by Robin from Blue Skies Rattery in Lancaster, PA and by Kelsey from TOPI Rats in Portland, OR. Ashten is a very dedicated and conscientious breeder - I have been very impressed with the care and concern she takes for all of the rats that come out of her rattery. I have adopted 6 female rats from her and they have all been extremely healthy and sweet! They love to be with people and have been a joy to have in my life. Thanks Ashten!"

"I found Sweet Whispers Rattery while searching for a PA breeder close to me. I contacted Ashten and she not only hooked me up with the greatest little buddy, but provided me with so much information and tips for rat keeping! It's been over a year and half since I took River home and he still is my best friend. River is currently about two and half years old and he is slowing down but I assume I still have quite awhile left with River to enjoy! If you are looking for a responsible, respectable, intelligent, and helpful small scale breeder, I couldn't recommend anyone better than Ashten at Sweet Whispers Rattery!"

"My wife and I were in need of two or three baby girls to provide company to our lonely girl Philly. Philly's sister had recently passed suddenly leaving her all alone. On top of that my chocolate lab passed after thirteen great years a week before Philly's sister. It was getting lonely in our home that was filled with animals and while I was not ready to get a new dog yet we needed some company and Philly needed companions.
I contacted multiple breeders and did not receive much response. Ashten got back to me very quickly, was incredibly understanding of our situation, and of our desire to adopt quickly. She was extremely helpful and accommodating. We quickly made arrangements to adopt three baby girls. I have to say all three girls are really great. They are really sweet and friendly. They are very socialized and really outgoing. Each one has such a unique personality. Also they are very healthy and have a very nice appearance. We could not be happier.
After quarantine we introduced the three babies to our older girl Philly. We expected some fireworks at first, but everyone got along perfectly as if they were long lost family from the second they met. Philly immediately took a very motherly role with all three and they follow her everywhere. We often find a pile of rats laying in a nest or the hammock sleeping (usually Philly who is a big girl has a pile of babies sleeping on top of or nestled against her).
It has been great having the three new girls, but most of all it has been so nice seeing Philly happy and re-energized. She had taken to just hiding in the nest all the time after her sister passed and she was alone. Now she is a completely different rat thanks to her new friends. She is very social and has so much more life. It is a pleasure walking by the cage to see three babies jumping all over looking for attention and Philly acting the same way as if she was only a few months old as well.
I cannot thank Ashten enough for all the help, the quick response and reaction, and especially for the three great babies. She clearly is a top notch breeder in every aspect with rats and customer service. Even though she is two hours from my home it was well worth the trip. The next time we are looking for new babies I plan on gladly making the drive again. It is well worth it to go with someone you trust and know does a good job."

"Being a first time rat owner, Ashten answered every question that I had about rats in great detail. She is a very knowledgeable breeder and the boys (Baily and Burbon) I got from her have wonderful personalities, not to mention they are beautiful! I couldn't ask for any better companions. She cares about what she does and is devoted to producing quality over quantity. I plan on getting the third addition to my rat pack from her soon! I would recommend this breeder to anyone looking for high quality sweethearts."

"When most people hear that I adopted two rats they think I'm crazy, but my beautiful baby girls, Willow and Freya, have won over every single person with ease. They are both such friendly energetic little girls who have more kisses to give than any one person could ever receive! I did lots of research on both rats and breeders before I adopted and Sweet Whispers really stood out to me. I had a gut feeling that this was the right place for me to adopt from and I was right! I am so grateful for not only my sweet babies but also how amazing and helpful Ashten has been both through the adoption and since. I am in the process of adopting a retired rat from Sweet Whispers and cannot wait to meet my new little baby!"

"Thank you so much for the beautiful ratties! Mocha and Treasure (Or Glinda and Elphie, as I have now named them) are so sweet! In fact, my two best friends were fighting over who got to put their hand in the cage! I love them both so much."

"I adopted Roman and Storm from Ashten a few months ago. I fell in love with them as soon as we brought them home. With rats you can't have just one... or two, so I got the Critter Nation double unit cage and drove 2 hours to PA to adopt two more babies and came home with four! Each one of the boys has such different personalities and I just love them all. I am so glad to have found someone so knowledgeable and patient who has always steered me in the right direction."

"I've had rats before but this has been my first time getting rats from a breeder. I have to say, I can definitely tell the difference from pet store rats. Although all my pet store rats turned into great pets, it is great to have babies that aren't scared of you and want to be cuddled. I traveled up from Norfolk, VA, making it a 6 hour drive one way. I had been talking with several ratteries, but many had breeding issues or changes in schedules. I was hoping to get some during my break (I'm in college) and ended up finding STWR. Last weekend I adopted Basil (STWR Jack Frost) and Nutmeg (STWR Tannon). It was more than worth the drive! The babies were so licky and cuddly as we transported them home, not to mention handsome! I'm having a great time getting to know them and can't imagine any sweeter rat babies! Thanks for the great pets!"

"What an eye opener this has been. I decided to go with rats because my kids needed a small animal pet, and I despise hamsters. I didn't realize what sweet, loving, intelligent creatures they really are. They are less than 2 months old, and already they know their names and they reliably obey the word 'no'. My 5 and 3 year old kids absolutely adore them, and they have never once been bitten or even nibbled! You do need to watch your kids closely during handling - for the rat's safety, not your child's - until you feel certain your child won't mishandle it. This cannot yet be achieved by my 3 year old, but my 5 year old hardly needs watched any more. They are also so solidly healthy, and it's great to know that the lines they came from are not riddled with problems. This is important, because for instance, some lines are prone to develop tumors at young ages. What pet store knows this about their rats' backgrounds? Excellent experience with solid communication even after the sale from Ashten, along with in depth and ongoing guidance on their husbandry, which is basically a simple thing - they have no smell at all if their cage is kept reasonably clean. I HIGHLY recommend Ashten's lines, as she does keep excellent track of everything - and she can tell you the strengths and weaknesses of the line you choose. She cares; this is what makes her rattery special. I did a lot of research before settling on my family's very own pair of Sweet Whispers rats."

"Within the first few moments of having our little girls we were in love with them. They are incredibly affectionate, smart, and they come with us everywhere we go. They each have unique personalities with their own little quirks, but all three of them are very sweet. They love to nap on us or romp around on the couch, bed, or my laptop keyboard when I'm trying to write emails. As first time owners we've had tons of questions and Sweet Whispers has been incredibly helpful and patient, thank you so much for what you do!"

"I just wanted to send a quick note about the two male rats I got from you back on October 16th. They have settled into their new home quite well and seem to look forward to their 'playtime' outside the cage every day with me and random toys or mazes I make for them. The girls make it almost impossible to clean their cage because they want to see EVERYTHING I am doing and playtime is so much fun. The girls are little adventures. They have made it their mission to get off my bed and explore makes it a challenge to keep up. The boys want to just explore my pillows."

"I was in the market for two dumbo female rats, Rex was my preference but smooth coat would have been ok too. I filled out applications with three local (PA area) breeders, and seemed to have no real issues getting a rat from any of these breeders. One breeder in particular stood out to me and that was the wonderful lady at Sweet Whispers Rattery.
First let me start out by saying that just about every local breeder was recommending this rattery for quality pets. One breeder I filed an application with said that she didn't currently have any babies available, but knew of a rattery that did. Fortunately, I already had an application in with her, so the ball was already rolling!!!
I contacted Ashten and arranged to pick up my two little girls. Mind you, I am a rat mommy virgin! These two girls would be my first.... and like any virgin, or first time mother for that matter, I was a bit clueless. Mind you, I had done my research, but needed some coaching to get me right on track.
Ashten was there every step of the way! I remember one moment where she TOTALLY put the love of her ratties over the value of the sale..... and that is not a quality you often find in a breeder! This is when I KNEW I had made the right decision, to get my ratlings from Sweet Whispers Rattery!!
I took the 2.5 hr drive (gotta love explaining to co-workers that your taking a vacation day to pick up two rats) to get my girls (AKA Butters and Belle). I got my girls, filled out the necessary adoption papers and I was on my way.
Another thing that was awesome (for me) was that her little girl had no problems handling the ratties. Her daughter is about the same age as my son, and ultimately these girls were to be his pets under my supervision. In actuality, they are still his pets, but they have captured my heart... no really, a rat can capture your heart.
They are now a little older (and wiser) and frequent my king size bed for scritching and kisses and the ever so popular rat toss game.... all rat specific vocabulary I had to get acquainted with. Mind you, I have kissed my fair share of rats, but not the four leg variety ;)
I send pictures to Ashten routinely and she is always excited to see how big they are getting.
I want to thank Ashten for her kindness, patience, and time! Without it, I'm sure I wouldn't be the rat momma I am today!!
I will be getting my next 1 (maybe 2) girls in the coming months, but only from one breeder.... my friends at Sweet Whispers Rattery!!!"
